Child and Adult Care Food Program

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

was established in 1968 to help provide good nutrition in areas where there were large numbers of working mothers and needy children.

In 1978, Congress established the CACFP as a permanent, federally-funded program designed to reimburse child care providers who serve nutritious meals and/or snacks to the children in their care.
